Independent Private Instruction
REQUIREMENTS:
  • No Initial Reporting Required
    If a written request for information is received from the public school, use the Homeschool Iowa Independent Private Instruction Report Form
Accessibility:
  • No Access to Dual Enrollment
    for public school services, activities or Senior Year Plus options.
    (However, concurrent enrollment community college classes can be accessed.)
  • Access Available for Parent-Taught Driver Education
    Homeschool Iowa & the DOT worked together to clarify that students under any private instruction option are eligible. Read more.

Competent Private Instruction | Option 2 | with Opt-Out Reporting
REQUIREMENTS:
  • No Initial Reporting Required
Accessibility:
  • No Access to Dual Enrollment
    for public school services, activities or Senior Year Plus options.
    (However, concurrent enrollment community college classes can be accessed.)
  • Access Available for Parent-Taught Driver Education
    Use Homeschool Iowa Optional Report Form for CPI Option 2 with Opt-Out when applying as a teaching parent for Parent-Taught Driver Education

Competent Private Instruction | Option 2 | With Opt-In Reporting
REQUIREMENTS:
  • CPI Form A must be filed
    by Sept 1 or within 14 days of establishing Iowa residence or removing child from accredited school enrollment
  • Annual assessment results report must be filed
    by June 30 (with assessment completed by May 1)
Accessibility:
  • Access available for Dual Enrollment
    for public school services, activities, and Senior Year Plus options
  • Access available for Parent-Taught Driver Education

Competent Private Instruction | Option 1 | With Teacher You Select
REQUIREMENTS:
  • CPI Form A must be filed
    by Sept 1 or within 14 days of establishing Iowa residence or removing child from accredited school enrollment
  • Meet with your selected Iowa licensed teacher
    8 times per year
    (2 times per quarter)
Accessibility:
  • Access available for Dual Enrollment
    for public school services, activities, and Senior Year Plus options
  • Access available for Parent-Taught Driver Education

REQUIREMENTS:
  • CPI Form A must be filed
    by Sept 1 or within 14 days of establishing Iowa residence or removing child from accredited school enrollment
  • Meet with your assigned Iowa licensed HSAP teacher
    16 times per year 
    (4 times per quarter)
Accessibility:
  • Access available for Dual Enrollment
    for public school services, activities, and Senior Year Plus options
  • Access available for Parent-Taught Driver Education
