Science Center of Iowa Homeschool Science Series Fall 2022
With hands-on workshops for students and parents, the Homeschool Science Series is a unique opportunity for homeschoolers to enhance their curriculum through STEM programming led by SCI staff. Workshops also provide an opportunity for homeschoolers to share ideas and expand their network of like-minded learners.
Fall 2022 Theme — Robotics and Coding
The world of computer science is expanding ways that people use and create with technology. Explore ways in which robots make our lives easier and safer. Youth will lean how to code robots to make art, complete task and create music.

Upcoming Workshops:
Thursday, October 6, 11:00 am-12:00 pm - Introduction to Robotics = What is the difference between a robot and a machine? What kind of tasks can robots complete?
Thursday, October 13, 11:00 am-12:00 pm – Introduction to Coding = How do we communicate with robots through code? How can we code robots to use different inputs and outputs?
Thursday, October 20, 11:00 am-12:00 pm – Robot Racers = What are the different ways a robot can move or cause other things to move?
Thursday, October 27, 11:00 am-12:00 pm – Robot Challenge: Communication = What are the different ways that we communicate? How can robots solve problems related to communication?
Class Logistics & Safety Precautions
Homeschool Science Series workshops will take place in person at the Science Center of Iowa. During each session, students will meet with SCI staff to explore the topic while parents participate in a free concurrent session.
Pricing:
- Individual Class: $19 per child; $10 for SCI members
- Fall 2022 Series (all classes): $76 per child; $40 for SCI members
