Science Center of Iowa Homeschool Workshops

With hands-on activities for students and parents, the Science Center of Iowa Homeschool Workshops offer a unique opportunity for homeschoolers to enhance their curriculum through STEM programming led by SCI staff.

NEW in 2026: TWO workshop levels, one for ages 5-14 and another for ages 11-18.

KINDERGARTEN-8th GRADE WORKSHOPS

Workshops are scheduled 11:00am-Noon on Thursdays in October. Registration includes two concurrent workshops, one for youth and one offered for their parents/caregivers, exploring the day's theme.

  • October 1: Brain Basics: Your Body's Control Center
  • October 8: Neurons & Signals: How Your Brain Communicates
  • October 15: Senses & Perception: Can You Trust Your Brain?
  • October 22: Memory & Learning: Building a Better Brain
  • October 29: Your Changing Brain: Emotions, Decisions & Growth

Cost per student:

  • Members = $16 per workshop or $75 for full series package
  • Non-Members = $26 or $125 for full series package

Cost for parents: No additional cost for parents that register for the workshop*

*Only those that are registered, both students and parents, can attend the workshop. Children younger than 5 years old attending the workshop do not need to be registered. Registered participants receive admission to the Science Center of Iowa for the remainder of the day.

AGES 11-18 WORKSHOPS

Workshops are scheduled 1:00-2:00pm on Thursdays in October.

Designed for older homeschool learners seeking a deeper STEM experience, these workshops explore advanced science and engineering topics through project-based learning and authentic Innovation Lab experiences.

  • October 1: Your Flexible Brain
  • October 8: Focus & Attention Lab
  • October 15: Stress, Emotions & the Brain
  • October 22: Brain, Sleep & Performance
  • October 29: Motivation & Mindset

Cost per student:

  • Members = $16 per workshop or $75 for full series package
  • Non-Members = $26 or $125 for full series package
